We go about our daily hustle completing lists and accomplishing tasks, all the while worried about tomorrow. I think we all have at least a little fear and apprehension as to what curve balls life will throw our way. It’s good to plan, prepare, and work hard so we will be ready for the surprises in life. However, we can’t keep our eyes off the ultimate prize.
In the story of Martha and Mary, many people believe Martha is being treated unfairly. After all she is doing all of the work and Mary is just sitting down and listening to Jesus. However, could you imagine leaving a guest by himself to go off to do work? Serving others is a very good thing, but we need to check in with Jesus and get guidance from Him as to where He is leading us. How many of us consistently go off to do our own thing and leave Jesus behind?
Jesus says, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing.” We have so many worries in life and these worries can hold us back from fulfilling our true calling. When we put our trust in God and listen to His Word, we will have less anxiety and worry and we will better find our way to eternal happiness.
