We are living in a crazy time with multiple wars going on along with the threat of more violence to come. We are on the brink of a recession and families are already struggling to make ends meet. We also have a spiritual war going on. There is an attack on the family and an overall attack on basic moral values. We need to make sure we are always mentally, physically, and spiritually prepared, especially during tough times.
When a big hurricane approaches, the wise make sure they are prepared to weather the storm and its aftermath. Those who fail to prepare can easily find themselves in a big mess. One method of preparing might be to get us and our loved ones out of harms way and avoid the danger altogether. Those who don’t respect the power of a natural disaster risk physical death and those who don’t respect the authority and power of God can jeopardize their eternal life.
God is love in the purest form, but He is also a just God and there are consequences for choosing not to listen to Him. The rules that God gives us aren’t arbitrary, but are given to us to keep us safe, healthy, and happy. I don’t tell my kids to stop playing video games because I’m mean, but because I know that too much video games isn’t good for them. We teach our kids to not do drugs because we know that drugs can lead to addiction and destroy lives. God tells us that sex should only be between a husband and wife, because He knows that outside of marriage, sexual relations can hurt ourselves and others. All of the commandments we are given, have a good reason behind them.
We don’t know when our time on earth will end, so we need to always be in a good relationship with God. We need to pray everyday, even if we just pray for a few minutes. We need to go to church at least once a week. We need to confess our sins when we commit a mortal sin, at the very least. Preparation requires some work, but it’s worth it. There’s no such thing as being over prepared for Heaven. The better prepared we are, the more joy we will experience in Heaven.
