Many times we have cried out, “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”. We do our best to be good and do what is right and we still fall flat on our face. Does God even care? Am I disappointing Him somehow?
God never promised us that there would never be any pain or suffering. Even Jesus cried out to his Father on the cross asking why He abandoned Him. God didn’t abandon Jesus, He was right there on the cross with Him. It pained God to see Jesus suffer and die, but He loved how Jesus approached it.
Instead of complaining about our suffering, we should find ways to offer it up for good. Jesus didn’t just suffer and die for nothing, he offered up his suffering and death to save humanity. When we suffer, we should offer it up for our sins or for someone or something else. Just say, “God, I offer up my suffering for the evil I have done, for this person, or for that cause”. Then our suffering isn’t meaningless and it is actually doing some good. I’ve heard it said that the more we suffer now, the less we will suffer in purgatory.
We will all have a Good Friday experience where we go through pain and suffering. We will all have a Holy Saturday moment where we feel alone and empty. However, if we are able to push through the pain and emptiness that we feel in life and create good from it, we will also experience the intense joy of Easter Sunday.
