I often get nervous when I travel out of the country. I usually don’t know the language and am unfamiliar with the customs of the people who live there. I feel vulnerable and handicapped and that makes me extra nervous when I venture out in the city. Anytime, we are far from home and far from what we are used to, we can very easily feel scared.
Our ultimate home is with our Father in Heaven. How far away from home are we? It’s easy to see how many people are fearful in this world when they remain distant from God. Jesus tells us, “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.” Our ultimate goal should be to make it to Heaven, so we shouldn’t be scared because if we die we will achieve our greatest goal. The people who are scared to die are those who have placed their worth in Earthly things and/or don’t have a good relationship with Jesus.
Instead of spending our energy stressing about life and death, we should focus on living our life the way Jesus wants us to live. Everyone has an opinion on what we should do with our life and how we should spend our time and money, but ultimately the only opinion that matters is Jesus’. Others can help us along the way, but we need to have a good discerning heart to know whose advice to listen to and whose to ignore.
While all Christian religions will guide us in the general direction of Heaven, the Catholic Church is the fulfillment of truth and will get us to our destination with the least pain and stress. Many people try to do their own thing and figure out their own path to Heaven. However, the Catholic Church has already made the guide and map that will take us right to Heaven. If we follow what the Church teaches, we will be guided to Jesus like a GPS guides us around obstacles to our destination.
Try to always devote time to work on your relationship with Jesus and stay close to Him. Use the guide that the Church provides to lead you to eternal happiness. Finally, don’t live your life in fear, but live with confidence that every step you take will bring you closer to your Heavenly home.
