Throughout a good portion of history, humanity has been searching for a savior. Many imagined someone with great power who would come and conquer all those who opposed him. People may have thought their savior was going to be a king or a strong figure, but they didn’t expect their savior to be the actual son of God.
Jesus, the son of God, came into the world, not as a powerful ruler, but with humility as a helpless human baby. He doesn’t distance himself from us, but incorporates himself into humanity. Jesus is not just God in a human form, but 100% human as well as 100% divine. He isn’t Superman with powers and invulnerability, but He is a perfected version of us. Jesus channeled many miracles through God the Father, but the Father can work many miracles through us as well if we truly have faith and God’s blessing.
Jesus can relate to us, because He lived in this valley of tears. When we have physical and emotional suffering, know that Jesus went through much suffering and humiliation during His Earthly life as well. A lot of teenagers might say, “You just don’t understand what I’m going through Mom and Dad.” Well, parents do understand because they were once teenagers and went through similar hardships. Jesus understands as well and this common understanding allows us to grow closer to Him.
Jesus could also teach us better as a relatable person who is like us instead of as a towering powerful figure. We need role models and we can all relate to at least one aspect of Jesus’ life. Through His example and our common bond, we can move closer and closer to becoming the perfected version of ourselves.
The word Emmanuel literally means God is with us. He truly is with us in every way possible. He is with us because He united Himself with humanity. He is with us to guide us as we go through our life. He is with us to protect us from evil and most importantly He is with us to not only open the gates of Heaven, but welcome us in.
