We all have goals, aspirations, and to do lists. We spend each day accomplishing the tasks that we have made for ourselves or someone has made for us. Accomplishing these goals are good, but the main question we need to ask ourselves is are we primarily living to succeed and be happy in this life or in the next?
We are all blessed to wake up every morning, but sometimes we can be physically awake and spiritually asleep. How many times a week do we go out to have a good time, but then neglect to spend time with God by going to church? How much time do we spend on social media and how much time do we spend praying? How much of our time is spent serving ourselves vs serving others. I know that I am guilty of spending too much time doing frivolous things and not enough time praying.
It’s easy to keep hitting the snooze button instead of working on improving our spiritual life. Laziness is prevalent today, but if we don’t get up and keep exercising our souls, we will find them out of shape. Many people wear fitness trackers and set daily physical exercise goals. Let’s set some spiritual exercise goals. There are many tools such as books, videos, apps, the rosary, and perhaps even a spiritual blog that we can use to help us stay spiritually fit.
So let us arise to the challenge to keep our spiritual life in good health. Life is a marathon and we need our souls to be in good enough shape to push through all of the challenges that we will encounter during our life. With our soul in excellent shape, we will be able to climb up the mountain of life to heaven and embrace God as He says, “Well done!”
