During Advent, we celebrate Christ’s birth and anticipate His second coming. Jesus doesn’t seek to bring condemnation or punishment when He returns, but offers us salvation and eternal joy. So, we must ask ourselves: what are we doing to prepare for His arrival in our lives, and are we making His journey to us an easy one?
Every action we take either clears the way for Jesus to reach us or puts obstacles in His path. He seeks not only to come to humanity as a whole but to meet each of us personally. He desires a deep, personal relationship with every individual. Like any meaningful relationship, this requires effort from both sides.
It’s hard to have a relationship with Jesus if we live like He doesn’t exist. Life gets busy, and finding time to pray or talk to God often feels challenging. How many times do we interact with our cell phones, and how many times do we interact with God? How often do we go shopping for things we want and need, and how often do we go to Church to worship Jesus? These answers will reveal what truly holds our hearts.
Jesus stands with arms outstretched, ready to embrace us. While His love is unconditional, He won’t force Himself on us. He constantly pursues us, but we have the freedom to choose a different path. We can make it difficult for Jesus to reach us or welcome Him with open arms. As we journey through Advent, let’s take intentional steps to welcome Jesus into our lives. Let’s clear the path for Jesus by prioritizing Him above all things. In doing so, we prepare not only for His coming but for the eternal joy He promises.
