Just look around the world today and we will see fear and death all over the place. A lot of people are worried about their health and the health of their children and loved ones. If they aren’t worried about illness or death, they may be worried about their job, their freedom, their country, or even the world. We like to have everything laid out for us and when there is uncertainty, fear can find a way into our lives.
Fear isn’t all bad. It can protect us from harm, motivate us, and can even give us an adrenaline rush. However, fear can also negatively affect our health. It affects our blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing. Fear can cloud our judgment and make it hard to think rationally.
Horror movies like to play on our fear of death. We enjoy the things we have in this world and the people that we love. Death threatens to take away everything, so it is natural to be fearful of dying. What happens after death is also unknown. Like I said before, not knowing what will happen can lead us to fear.
Faith is the key to overcoming fear and death. Faith fills in the blanks of uncertainty that we have. With faith, we know that God will guide us through our life. The places God leads us to are not always pleasant, but He is always there with us. An illness, injury, or loss can leave us fearful. However, having faith in God’s perfect love for us is comforting and helps relieve some of our fears.
When we put our faith in God, we know what will happen after death. Jesus says that everyone who listens to the Father and learns from Him will come to Him and that whoever eats His bread will have eternal life. While we may not want to die right now, dying shouldn’t be a fearful and negative event, but a positive transitional event. When we die in God’s graces, we will experience the greatest love of all and live in that love for all of eternity.
Without faith, it is very easy to be fearful. Without God, dying is the end of our existence. Horror movies and death are not scary to a person with faith. The true horrors are the things in the world that lead us away from God, separating us from our true love for all eternity.
