“Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.” This opening line from the soap opera, Days of Our Lives has a lot of truth in it. Everyone has a finite amount of sand in our own hourglass and every day we grow closer to running out of time.
Throughout our life, we will feel the influence of the evil one; let’s call him Stefano Dimera. Stefano is always trying to entice us with the freedom to do what we want to do, but when we choose his way we lose our freedom and are bound to him. He spreads his evil and lies masking them as good things, and then traps us when we choose them.
Thankfully, we have many good people in our life to turn to for guidance. One very special person is our mother; let’s call her Alice Horton. Alice is someone we can come to with our problems and she will guide us back on the right path. Her light and goodness dispels the darkness of Stefano and allows us to see the truth. Our mother is always there for us, we just have to call her.
When our last grain of sand passes through the hourglass and we pass into eternity, our whole life will seem like a grain of sand. We will look back over our short life and see the good and bad choices that we made. If we made a habit of talking with our mother, we will recognize her voice when she calls us home. If we just listen to the voice of the world, the only voice we will recognize is Stefano’s. Pray to our mother and ask her for help. She is fully human and understands the troubles we go through. The most important thing to remember is that there is just too much drama in the world to watch soap operas.
