The family is a special and important relationship. Usually, the people we are closest to in life are part of our family. We can let our guard down and relax when we are around our family. I’ve got lots of good memories growing up with my family and now I’m making lots more good memories with my own family. Being a family isn’t always easy and being a holy family is even harder.
Marriage is a sacrament that is supposed to mirror the love God has for His Church. When married couples go out into the world, others should be able to see the love that Jesus has for His bride, the Church. When the couple comes together in the sexual embrace, the couple gets to participate with God in His gift of creation. The sexual embrace is very beneficial inside of marriage and can help bond the couple. Outside of marriage, it can cause many problems. Many people don’t seem to appreciate commitment and vows, but if we want our relationship to mirror God’s love for us, commitment needs to be a part of the relationship.
Everyone isn’t able to have kids, but married couples need to be open to having kids. I know that I can relate a whole lot more to my Father in Heaven, after having kids than before I had kids. Too many people think marriage is a relationship between two people, but it’s really a relationship between three with God as the third person. The married couple should be open to where God may call them and what He may call them to do.
The father and mother have a very important job of educating their children about God and teaching them good moral values. We can’t send them to a school and expect them to be instructed in the ways of God. Unfortunately, even most Catholic schools don’t do enough to teach the faith to our children. If parents don’t practice their faith, it is very doubtful that their kids will practice their faith as well. Parents are who the children look up to, so it’s very important for them to practice what they preach.
Just as individuals should practice good virtues and be a light to the world, families should also do the same. There are attacks on the family from every front and the world needs good and holy families to show that there’s still hope for us. Holy families can change hearts and inspire other families to do better as well. Let’s not just try to be good families, but holy families that help to change the world for the better.
