In the parable of the landowner, there is grumbling because the laborers who only worked for a short time, get paid the same as those who worked all day. I think most of us would be grumbling if that happened in our jobs. However, in regards to the kingdom of heaven it makes sense. There are good people who are strong in their faith their whole lives, others that find God midway through their lives, and others who only turn to the light at the end of their lives. All inherit the kingdom of God.
The master still loves the worker who labored the whole time, but is always trying to find others. The landowner says to the grumblers, “My friend, I am not cheating you. Did you not agree with me for the daily wage?”. God’s wage that he pays us is eternal life. We shouldn’t be jealous when other people get their wage, we should rejoice! May everyone say yes to the call to do God’s work. Our payday is coming!
