It’s sad that a lot of people don’t know how important they are. Many people don’t feel like they fit in and don’t think that they make a meaningful contribution to society. They don’t make a lot of money, aren’t famous, and others often disrespect and ignore them. Don’t think that you aren’t important, because we’re re all important in God’s eyes.
Think about the vastness of the universe. There is so much to explore, that we couldn’t possibly see all of it. If you want to feel small, look at a scale model of the Earth compared to the Sun. If you really want to feel insignificant, think about the size of the Earth compared to the size of the universe. A lot of scientists believe, that there is other life in the universe. I believe that while some sort of life is a possibility, intelligent life like us doesn’t exist. Let’s just imagine that my theory is true. If we truly are the only intelligent beings created by God in the whole universe, we are extremely special to God.
In this world, we place extra value on things that are rare and uncommon. If we really are the only beings created to share in God’s love for all eternity in Heaven, then we are each worth more than we can ever imagine. Jesus has even mentioned this in the parable of the lost sheep. The shepherd leaves the other sheep and goes out and searches for the one lost sheep of the flock. Just think about when we lose something very important to us. We stop what we are doing and focus solely on finding the lost object. It’s hard to think about anything else until we’ve found our lost possession. When we find it, we have such a big sigh of relief. God feels the same when He finds one of us who was lost.
The world had sunk into bad spiritual shape after the fall. God spoke through many prophets to nudge the world in the right direction, but most people didn’t listen. God loved us so much that He even sent His Son Jesus to show us the way. Humanity didn’t accept Him and ended up killing Him, but the impact He made will be everlasting. Jesus was the cornerstone of Catholicism and Christianity in that He laid the first brick of His new Church. We are each tasked with continuing to build up His Church by laying our own brick. Our brick is our life and when we live our life according to the plans that Jesus laid out, our brick goes to building up something beautiful.
People may reject us and ignore us, but remember that they did the same to Jesus. We each have the ability to make this world and the next even better. Let’s build upon Jesus’ cornerstone and lay our own brick to help God’s beautiful plan to become more of a reality. Everyone won’t treat you great and everything isn’t always awesome, but never forget how important you are.
